Mountain hiking "Huaytapallana"

What a beautiful day to enjoy God's creation!
A trip that none of us were prepared for and one that we will not soon forget, was an all day mountain hiking trip over and around mountains and lakes at an altitude of over 14,000 feet.
We were told by many people that it was a beautiful touristic trip into the snow peak mountains with a nice blue lake to relax and go fishing. We decided to take a university student (Guillermo) who had taken the trip a few times to be our guide. He told us the lake was just over those first few mountains and that we could be there in less than two hours.

It took us over two and half hours to get over the first mountain and than found out that we had to climb down the other side and across the field to start climbing over the second. It took us four and half hours to arrive to the lake.

Don't be fooled like us thinking that the lake in the picture was the end. The nice lake is still beyond it and down a cliff.

Can you spot Matthew waiting at the bottom of this mountain in a chair for the adults?

The lake was a pretty blue color with a beautiful sunset and I regret not having enough time to enjoy it more. We had high hopes as we carried tubes to go sledding, fishing poles to fish, a cooler with lunches, tent and chairs to relax, etc... Now that we know the path and distance, the next time will be different. The hardest thing for us was the expectation of arriving just over the mountain only to discover that there was more to climb and mentally preparing ourselves to climb the next to find that it still was not our destination.

We climbed over the mountain pictured below going to the lake and hiked around it to return.
The sun was going down and a rain cloud was coming in with still a ways to go to get back to the van. We were out in the country with no shelter, restrooms, phone signal, or roads around.
My dad is hiking the path that goes around this mountain.
Toward the end of the trip, Jon and Ray stopped for REST, a picture, and to capture the view of the waterfall.
The day ended after a nine hour hiking trip without time to fish or relax because we wanted to be sure to get off the mountain the same day.
The next day, we took a trip to the mall which had an escalator. Everyone was smiling and appreciating not having to climb.
